Onward in your AI assistant

Connect Onward to Claude or another AI assistant and you can ask it about selling or buying a small business. It answers from Onward's lessons and glossary, and links you to the lesson each answer came from.

Who can use it

You need an Onward account. While Onward is in private preview, accounts are by invitation: request early access.

Add Onward to Claude

1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors, choose Add, then Add custom connector.
2. Name it Onward and paste this address: https://app.onwardlegacy.com/mcp
3. Select Connect. Sign in to Onward when asked, then choose Connect on Onward's screen to approve it.
4. Start a chat and ask away. If Claude doesn't use Onward, check that it's turned on in the chat's connectors menu.

Other assistants that support remote MCP connectors with sign-in work the same way: give them the address above, sign in to Onward, and approve.

What the assistant can do

Onward gives the assistant six tools. All of them only read. None changes anything in your account.

• List lessons: the selling and buying lessons in reading order, step by step.
• Read a lesson: a whole lesson, including the questions to take to your own attorney, accountant or lender, and its sources. When a lesson has a video or narration, the assistant tells you and links to the lesson page, where you can watch or listen.
• Search lessons: the lessons and glossary terms that match a few words.
• Define a term: Onward's plain-English definition of a term such as SDE, add-backs or letter of intent.
• Your progress: which lessons you've marked read and the next one to read.
• Your account: which Onward account the connection is signed in as.

Lessons are general education, not legal, tax or financial advice. Each one ends with the questions to take to your own advisors.

Your privacy

Onward never sees your conversation with the assistant, only each request it makes to Onward, such as a lesson to open or a term to define. The assistant can't see your profile, valuation, listing, messages or documents. What we keep, and for how long.

Disconnect

In your Onward account, go to Settings → Connected AI assistants and choose Disconnect. The connection stops working straight away. You can also remove Onward from the assistant's own connector settings.
